2020 Cameroon 3 oz Legendary Warriors Viking Axeman High Relief Silver Coin

After a stellar 2019 with the debut of some very fine new coins, Mint 21 has continued the quality streak with some great new releases this year and we're also seeing some follow-ups to some of the releases from recent years. Our most popular edition of Mint21 to date has been the stunning design of Spartan Hoplite, the first in a new series simply called Legendary Warriors. We've been eagerly awaiting a sequel, and now it's here in the form of a Viking Axeman.

The Vikings have been a popular subject for coins throughout popular culture over the past decade. You are a good choice. Combined with an intriguing story and powerful imagery, few things catch the eye like a Viking warrior in battle, especially when wielding his weapon of choice, the axe. As with the hoplite coin, the focus here is firmly on the warrior figure. There's a good bit of melee combat in the background to give context to the character, but the viking, who appears to be jumping off the coin, is the dominant element.

These are 3 ounce coins with a generous 55mm diameter, offering plenty of canvas but containing enough metal to allow for a high level of high relief at the same time. The warrior has been expertly designed to perfectly match the round surface, shield and ax head to the curve. As with the debut 2019 edition, there's a red color denoting the blood of battle and a single gilded area, this time the Viking helmet, sans the ridiculous horns that popular culture often adorns them with.

The front is another excellent one. Similar to the Hoplite front, this one changes the center section to mimic the texture and fittings of the Vikings' iconic round shield. Inscriptions are kept to the minimum necessary and placed with sympathy on both sides. The coin naturally comes with a Certificate of Authenticity and has a mintage of 500 pieces.
